Chapter 10 - The Legacy

One year later, the sun rose over the lush rolling hills of the Moretti estate overlooking the coast.
The old stone mansion had been completely restored, its gardens filled with blooming white and red roses that stretched all the way down to the blue waters of the bay.
In the center of the garden stood a brand-new glass conservatory—a state-of-the-art design laboratory where Ava Monroe Moretti worked on her international collections.
Ava stood near the large cutting table, holding a small, six-month-old baby girl wrapped in a soft ivory cashmere blanket. The baby had bright, curious dark eyes that mirrored her father's, and a tuft of dark silk hair resting against Ava's shoulder.
"Look at this, Eleanor," Ava whispered softly, pointing down at a new silk pattern resting on the table—a pattern that featured delicate, repeating gold roses intertwined with subtle emerald vine threads. "This is your grandmother's pattern. We're going to show it in Milan next month."
The baby cooed softly, reaching out her tiny hand to grab the gold black rose key pendant resting against Ava's neck.
The double glass doors of the conservatory opened, and Niko walked in, wearing a casual linen shirt and trousers, his dark eyes lighting up the moment he saw his wife and daughter.
"She's supposed to be taking her morning nap," Niko said with a soft smile, stepping up beside them and kissing Ava gently on the cheek before taking little Eleanor into his arms.
"She refused to sleep until she saw the new fabric swatches," Ava teased gently, leaning her head against Niko's shoulder as he bounced the baby softly in his arms.
"She's a Monroe," Niko said proudly, watching the baby laugh as she swiped at his linen collar. "She knows what quality looks like."
Niko looked out through the glass walls of the conservatory at the peaceful rose gardens, then down at Ava, his hand reaching out to entwine his fingers with hers.
"The federal receivership closed the Whitmore file yesterday," Niko noted quietly. "The carriage house in the old estate has been deeded permanently to the Monroe Foundation as a historical design museum for young women learning the craft."
Ava looked down at the gold ring on her finger, then up at her husband and daughter.
Six years of darkness, poverty, and quiet endurance had led her to this moment. She had walked through the fire of betrayal, stripped of her dress and accused of theft, only to discover that the strength her mother had hidden inside her was greater than any force designed to destroy her.
She wasn't a shadow hiding behind a velvet curtain anymore. She was a creator, a wife, a mother, and the undisputed queen of her own legacy.

"It's complete," Ava whispered softly, leaning up to kiss Niko's jaw as the morning sun flooded the conservatory with warm, golden light.
"It's just beginning," Niko corrected her softly, wrapping his arm around her waist as they stood together under the warm sun, watching their daughter smile at the bright world waiting outside.
