Chapter 8 - The Debut

Six months later, the Grand Ballroom of the Aurelia Hotel was once again lit with three dozen crystal chandeliers.
But tonight, there were no velvet curtains hiding tired seamstresses in the back room. There were no fake diamond necklaces, no stolen dresses, and no arrogant socialites standing on stage claiming work that was not theirs.
Tonight was the global launch of THE ELEANOR MONROE COLLECTION: DESIGNED BY AVA MONROE.
Five hundred of the world's most influential fashion editors, buyers, and international dignitaries filled the golden ballroom. Among them sat prominent figures who had attended the infamous gala seven months earlier—now competing fiercely for front-row seats to witness the fashion event of the season.
Behind the wide velvet runway, Ava stood at the center of a bustling, high-energy backstage area. Dozens of models in stunning, handcrafted gowns of silk, velvet, and intricate lace lined up in perfect formation.
Ava moved through the line with calm, effortless authority—adjusting a hem here, smoothing a lapel there, her touch precise and confident.
Elena stepped up beside her, holding a tablet displaying live sales inquiries from Paris, London, and Tokyo. "Miss Monroe, the pre-show digital orders have already surpassed four million dollars. The fashion board in Paris wants to know if you will open Paris Fashion Week in October."
"Tell them yes," Ava said with a serene smile. "On the condition that my mother's original name is featured on the main grand arch of the Palais."
"Done," Elena said, beaming with pride.
A low hush fell over the ballroom as the house lights dimmed, replaced by a soft, dramatic amber glow illuminating the center runway.
Niko stepped through the backstage curtain, wearing a sleek black tuxedo that made him look impossibly handsome. He walked straight over to Ava, standing beside her as the opening notes of a live string quartet echoed through the house speakers.
"Are you ready?" Niko asked quietly.
Ava reached up, her fingers resting over her black rose key pendant. "I’ve been ready for six years."
The first model stepped out onto the runway—wearing an updated, breathtaking reimagining of the emerald silk dress that Bianca had torn seven months earlier. The fabric flowed like liquid light under the spotlights, its hem finished with an exquisite gold-threaded border shaped into tiny, repeating black roses.
The audience gasped collectively, followed by an explosion of camera flashes that lit up the dark room like starlight.
Model after model walked the runway, each garment a masterpiece of structural precision, emotional depth, and timeless luxury. It was a collection that didn't just showcase fashion; it told a story—a story of survival, legacy, and reclaiming what was lost.
When the final gown passed down the runway, the entire audience rose to their feet in a thunderous, unanimous standing ovation that shook the crystal chandeliers.
"They're calling for the designer," Niko said softly, taking her hand and leading her toward the runway entrance.
Ava stepped out into the blinding light of the ballroom.
The applause surged into a roar. Editors were cheering, buyers were clapping enthusiastically, and camera lenses were focused entirely on the young woman standing in the center of the stage in her simple navy gown and gold key pendant.

Ava bowed gracefully, her eyes scanning the sea of cheering faces until her gaze landed on Niko, who was standing at the edge of the stage, watching her with open admiration and devotion.
She didn't see a mafia king or a dangerous tycoon. She saw the man who had wrapped her in his coat when the world was throwing stones at her, and who had stood beside her while she rebuilt her empire brick by brick.
