Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Promise

Two years later.

On a warm afternoon in late August, the private chapel overlooking the ocean on the eastern cliffs of the Moretti estate was filled with white roses and soft candlelight.

A small, intimate gathering of forty close friends and family members sat in the oak pews as the soft notes of a string quartet echoed through the stone hall.

At the altar stood Dominic Moretti, wearing a tailored charcoal suit, his gaze fixed on the heavy oak doors at the rear of the chapel.

Beside him stood Ethan, now ten years old, serving as his father's best man, wearing a matching suit with a white rose pinned to his lapel.

The chapel doors opened slowly.

Lily, now five years old, walked down the aisle as the flower girl, wearing a white lace dress with a yellow sash, scattering rose petals from a small silver basket. As she reached the front, she gave Ethan a bright, toothy grin and took her seat in the front pew.

Then came Sophia.

She looked breathtaking in an elegant ivory gown with a long lace train that drifted softly behind her across the stone floor. She carried a bouquet of white peonies and lavender. Her dark hair was styled in a soft updo, framed by a delicate pearl veil.

As she reached the altar, Dominic took her hand, his fingers clasping hers with a gentle, protective warmth.

The minister smiled at the couple. "We are gathered here today in the presence of family and friends to unite Dominic and Sophia in the holy bond of matrimony. The journey that brought these two souls together was forged in hardship, tested by shadow, and elevated by love."

After the vows were exchanged, Dominic pulled a small velvet box from his pocket. Inside rested two simple, elegant wedding bands crafted from brushed platinum.

Dominic slipped the band onto Sophia's finger, looking directly into her eyes. "Sophia, I promise to honor you, protect you, and stand by your side through every shadow and every light. I promise to be a father to Lily and a partner to you for all the days of my life."

Sophia smiled through tears of joy as she slipped the second ring onto Dominic's finger. "Dominic, you gave us a home when we had nowhere left to go. You showed us that strength isn't built on power, but on love and loyalty. I give you my heart, my life, and my love forever."

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the minister declared. "You may kiss the bride."

Dominic drew Sophia close, pressing his lips to hers as the chapel erupted into applause and cheer.

Outside on the cliffside terrace, as the sun began its golden descent over the Atlantic Ocean, the family stood together near the stone wall overlooking the crashing waves below.

Dominic pulled a small silver object from his coat pocket—the antique cigarette case that had once belonged to David Carter.

Sophia looked at it, surprised. "Dominic?"

Dominic looked at her with deep respect. "This belongs to Lily when she comes of age. But today, I had a master jeweler add something to the inside."

He opened the silver case. Inscribed on the inside lid in clean, elegant script were the words:

May you like

To Lily — Who saw the truth when everyone else was blind. With eternal love, Dominic & Sophia.

Sophia pressed her hand to her heart, tears shining in her eyes as she kissed her husband gently on the cheek. "It's perfect."
