Chapter 9 - The Rebirth

Eight months later.

The grand auditorium of the Chicago Cultural Center was packed with over a thousand business leaders, journalists, and civic figures for the annual Midwest Economic Summit.

On the main stage, a massive screen displayed the glowing emblem of Vance Logistics.

The host stepped up to the podium, his voice echoing through the auditorium's surround-sound speakers. "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the President and Chief Executive Officer of Vance Logistics... Miss Olivia Vance!"

The auditorium erupted into thunderous applause.

Olivia Vance walked onto the stage.

She was breathtaking. She wore a tailored white tuxedo jumpsuit that accented her tall, elegant figure, her dark hair swept back. Four months had passed since she had given birth, and she carried herself with the supreme, absolute confidence of a woman who had conquered her own destiny.

She stepped up to the podium, smiling warmly at the audience.

In the front row, Kane Vance sat in the center seat, holding a tiny, four-month-old baby girl dressed in a soft yellow silk dress. Beside him sat Sir Arthur Pendelton and Viktor Volkov.

Kane looked up at his daughter on the stage, his face radiant with an overwhelming, silent pride.

"Good evening," Olivia’s voice rang clear, powerful, and mesmerizing through the hall. "One year ago, the green transportation infrastructure in the Northeast was declared bankrupt, mismanaged, and unsalvageable. Critics said that ethics and profitability could not coexist in modern corporate logistics."

She paused, looking out over the sea of industry leaders.

"Today, I am proud to announce that Vance Logistics has achieved complete carbon neutrality across our entire Atlantic fleet, while generating a sixty-two percent return on invested capital for our shareholders."

The audience gasped, followed by another wave of enthusiastic applause.

"We did not achieve this by cutting wages," Olivia continued, her eyes sweeping over the crowd, landing briefly on the press balcony where reporters from every major financial network were broadcasting her speech live. "We achieved this by recognizing that strength is not built on cruelty. True power is not the ability to destroy others... true power is the ability to protect what matters, rebuild what is broken, and stand unshakeable when the storm comes."

In the front row, Kane looked down at the tiny baby girl in his arms.

Little Victoria Vance blinked up at her grandfather with dark, brilliant eyes—the exact same eyes as her mother, and her grandfather before her. She reached up with a tiny hand, clutching Kane’s index finger with surprising, firm strength.

Kane smiled down at his granddaughter, leaning close to her tiny ear. "Listen to your mother, little one," Kane whispered softly. "She’s teaching you how to rule the world."
