Chapter 7 - The Master's Plan

The private conservatory atop Vance Global Tower was a tropical paradise surrounded by glass, filled with exotic orchids, palm trees, and the warm scent of orange blossoms, completely insulated from the freezing Chicago winter outside.

Kane Vance sat at a glass table, reading a physical copy of The Financial Times while sipping black coffee.

When Olivia walked in, his face immediately lit up with a warm, radiant smile. He set the newspaper aside and stood up, pulling out a plush velvet chair for her.

"How did you sleep, baby girl?" Kane asked, pouring her a glass of fresh organic orange juice.

"Better than I have in three years, Dad," Olivia admitted, sitting down and accepting the juice. "The baby was moving this morning."

Kane’s eyes brightened with intense delight. "Really? May I?"

Olivia smiled softly, taking her father’s large, scarred hand and placing it gently against the small curve of her sweater dress. For a few seconds, father and daughter sat in complete, peaceful silence until a tiny, distinct flutter tapped against Kane’s palm.

Kane let out a breathless, joyful laugh, his eyes shining with tears. "Powerful little thing, isn't it? Just like its mother."

"Dad," Olivia said gently, setting her glass down. "I want to talk about what comes next."

Kane sat back down, his expression shifting into that of a supportive mentor. "Whatever you want, Olivia. If you want to retire, travel the world, build an art restoration foundation... the entire resources of Vance Global are yours."

"I don't want to retire," Olivia said, her dark eyes clear and focused. "I spent two years sitting on the sidelines while Liam played at being a corporate titan. I watched how he managed his acquisitions. I watched how the Sterling Group operated. They were sloppy, cruel, and short-sighted."

Kane leaned forward, intrigued. "Go on."

"The Sterling Group had one asset that was actually valuable," Olivia explained, her tone becoming sharp, analytical, and surprisingly commanding. "Their green logistics network in the Northeast. It was poorly funded because Liam was diverting capital into high-risk derivative trading, but the infrastructure is solid."

Kane smiled, a slow, proud grin spreading across his face. "You want to buy it out of bankruptcy."

"I want to acquire it for ten cents on the dollar," Olivia corrected calmly. "Rebrand it under Vance Logistics, inject fifty million in capital, and appoint a proper executive team. I want to build it into the largest sustainable shipping network in the region."

Kane leaned back in his chair, folding his hands together, looking at his daughter with absolute admiration. The gentle archivist who spent her weekends restoring nineteenth-century oil paintings had inherited the mind of a lion.

"It will require fourteen-hour days, intense negotiations with trade unions, and standing in front of hostile financial boards," Kane noted, testing her resolve. "And you’re carrying my grandchild."

"I’m a Vance, Dad," Olivia said softly, a faint, dangerous smile playing on her lips. "I can handle a board meeting."

Kane slammed his hand on the table with a triumphant laugh. "That’s my girl! Viktor!"

Volkov appeared instantly from the shadows of the palms. "Sir?"

"Notify the bankruptcy court in New York," Kane commanded. "Miss Vance is taking personal control of the Sterling asset liquidation. Prepare her executive suite on the top floor by Monday morning."

"Understood, Sir," Volkov bowed and retired.

Olivia looked out through the glass walls of the conservatory, down at the endless expanse of the city below. The past was burned to ashes. The future was hers to command.
