Chapter 6 - The First Domino Falls

The Plaza ballroom was a breathtaking spectacle of gilded arches, towering floral arrangements of white hydrangeas, and crystal chandeliers that cast a shimmering brilliance over hundreds of the city's most powerful elite. Politicians, industrial magnates, and legacy families mingled in a hum of whispered power.
Marcus led his entourage through the double doors, chin tilted high, reveling in the curious glances cast their way. Victoria floated beside him like an imperious queen dowager, while Ashley clung to his arm, projecting the ultimate portrait of high-society pedigree.
"Table one," Marcus instructed the maître d' with deliberate volume. "Reserved for the Harrison family and the Sovereign executive committee."
"Right this way, Mr. Harrison," the host replied politely, escorting them to the grand table positioned directly adjacent to the main podium.
Marcus pulled out Ashley's chair with a flourish, basking in the spotlight. "You see this, father? This is where the Harrison name belongs. At the center of the world."
Richard sat down heavily, his hands trembling slightly as he reached for a water glass. The gnawing dread in his stomach had not subsided; every time he glanced at his phone, his private legal line remained ominously silent.
Suddenly, two men in tailored dark suits approached the table. They did not look like society patrons; their shoulders were broad, their expressions grim, and their movements entirely devoid of deference.
"Judge Richard Harrison?" the taller man said, flipping open a leather wallet to reveal a gold federal shield. "I am Special Agent Davies with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Public Corruption Unit."
The color vanished from Richard’s face so fast it looked as if his blood had turned to water. Victoria froze, a fork poised halfway to her mouth.
"What is the meaning of this insolence?" Victoria hissed, lowering her voice to a harsh whisper. "Do you have any idea where you are? This is a private charity gala!"
"Agent Davies," Richard managed to say, his voice cracking around the edges. "This is inappropriate. Whatever administrative matter you wish to discuss can wait until Monday morning in my chambers."
"There are no chambers, Judge Harrison," the agent replied evenly. "Ten minutes ago, a federal grand jury unsealed an eighteen-count indictment charging you with racketeering, judicial bribery, and international wire fraud. Federal marshals are currently executing search warrants at your residential property and your private chambers."
Gasps rippled from the surrounding tables. Several prominent corporate executives immediately leaned back, visibly distancing themselves from the Harrison table.
"Get out of here!" Marcus stepped forward, his eyes blazing with defensive rage. "My father is a decorated jurist! You can't humiliate our family like this. Do you know who we are signing a contract with tonight? Sovereign Holdings!"
Agent Davies didn't even blink. "Mr. Harrison, your father can either walk out of here quietly in handcuffs under his coat, or my colleagues can tackle him onto the floor in front of every camera in this room. You have thirty seconds to choose."
Richard looked around the room. The judges he had once lunched with turned their backs. The senators he had funded looked down at their plates. The fortress of prestige he had spent forty years constructing had dissolved into smoke in thirty seconds.

Slowly, Richard pushed himself up from the table, his knees buckling. Victoria let out a choked sob of pure mortification as the agents flanked her husband, sliding a dark trench coat over his cuffed wrists, and escorted him out the service entrance.
