Chapter 10 - The Fall of the House of Vance

Julian struggled to breathe, his mind fracturing under the weight of the revelation. "Elena... you... you lied to me. For three years, you lied to me about who you were!"

"I offered you an honest life," Elena said calmly, her gaze piercing through him like glass. "I gave you love, patience, and four hundred million dollars of my personal capital to build your pathetic little empire. And what did you do with it, Julian?"

She took a slow step closer, her voice dropping into a chilling register that made the hairs on the back of Julian's neck stand up.

"You called me dead weight. You kicked my hands while I bled on your terrace. You ordered your mistress to scatter thorns across my knees while I carried my child."

A murmur of disgust and horror rippled through the gathering of high-society guests. Several prominent board members who had supported Julian openly grimaced in revulsion.

"She’s lying!" Chloe screamed, stepping forward, hysterical. "She’s insane! Julian, tell them! She’s trying to destroy us out of spite!"

Arthur Sterling took half a step forward. He did not raise his voice; he simply spoke two words to the security commissioner standing nearby: "Remove her."

Two federal agents immediately flanked Chloe, clamping steel cuffs around her manicured wrists.

"Chloe Davenport," the lead agent announced loudly. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit international wire fraud, illegal asset appropriation, and aiding in the falsification of corporate balance sheets for Vance Logistics."

"Julian! Julian, help me!" Chloe shrieked as she was dragged backward across the polished floor, her designer heels squealing against the wood until the heavy doors swallowed her screams.

Julian stood utterly alone. He looked around wildly, but every friend, every associate, every former ally looked away with cold contempt.

Elena raised a slim, diamond-adorned hand. Gabriel stepped forward, handing Julian a thick leather-bound folder.

"What is this?" Julian asked, his hands shaking so violently he could barely hold the paper.

"Your complete reality," Elena said softly. "The annulment papers. A full confession of your financial fraud, signed by your CFO an hour ago. And the foreclosure documents on every single property bearing the Vance name. By midnight tonight, the Vance family name will cease to exist on the New York exchange."

Julian’s knees finally gave out. He fell onto his hands and knees on the parquet floor—in the exact same posture Elena had been forced into on the gravel terrace two days prior.

"Elena... please," Julian wept, clutching at the hem of her gown, tears streaming down his face. "I made a mistake. I was blind! We have a son! Think of our baby! Forgive me... please, Elena, I’ll do anything!"

Elena looked down at him, her eyes as cold and dark as the ocean depths. She stepped back, slipping her silk dress effortlessly out of his trembling grasp.

"My son is a Sterling," she said, her voice echoing through the silent hall. "You are nothing."
