Chapter 8 - The Falling Dominion

The collapse of Brandon’s family empire occurred with breathtaking speed. Marcus Vance proved to be as ruthless as he was thorough. Within forty-eight hours of filing our emergency motions, a county judge granted a temporary restraining order against Waylon and froze the commercial accounts of Aura Luxe Styling. When local detectives reviewed the bridal suite's high-definition security feed—which the venue management readily handed over to avoid liability—the assault charges against Waylon were upgraded to felony domestic battery against an elder, accompanied by criminal mischief charges against Brianna for the intentional destruction of my customized gown.
The social consequences were even more devastating for Brandon’s parents. In an attempt to preemptively defend their son, Brandon’s mother had posted an inflammatory statement on social media labeling me a thief and an unstable runaway bride. In response, Marcus released a factual, documented counter-statement containing the sworn bank audit, the frozen fraudulent wire transfers, and the police summons.
The public backlash was swift and unforgiving. Brandon’s commercial real estate firm, which relied heavily on moral integrity clauses and high-profile civic contracts, immediately placed him on indefinite administrative suspension pending an internal embezzlement probe. Mutual friends who had initially flooded my phone with scorn called back in tears, begging for forgiveness after learning that Brandon had been secretly expecting a child with his bridesmaid while forcing me to plan their front-facing wedding.
Brianna’s salon never opened its doors. With its bank accounts impounded and building permits revoked due to fraudulent capital declarations, the landlord terminated the lease, posting an eviction notice over the gilded sign Brandon had bought with my down payment. Brianna arrived at Mom’s house one evening, desperate, disheveled, and weeping, begging me to drop the civil suit so she wouldn't lose her cosmetology license.

I didn't open the gate. I spoke to her through the intercom with cold neutrality. "You stood in that suite and smiled while your brother assaulted my mother and you destroyed months of her labor. You told me hair grows back. Let's see how fast your reputation grows back."
She collapsed against the gate, sobbing in the dark, but there was no pity left in me. Justice was not cruelty; it was simply the balance of the universe settling back into place.
