Chapter 10 - Dawn Over Marblehead

Three weeks later, dawn broke over the Atlantic in pale ribbons of rose and gold.

The storm was long gone. The ocean outside the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Marblehead estate was as still as liquid lead. Inside the master suite, a fire crackled quietly in the hearth, casting warm shadows over the silk draperies and the antique oak floor.

Elena sat in an armchair by the window, wearing a soft cashmere sweater, a cup of chamomile tea resting on the side table. Her belly was larger now, twenty-seven weeks along, and the baby was kicking with steady, healthy rhythm against her palm.

A soft knock sounded at the door.

Dante stepped in. His left arm was immobilised in a sleek black medical brace. His dark hair was freshly cut, his jaw clean-shaven, but the arrogance that had once defined his stride had been entirely erased. He looked stripped down, raw, and humble.

In his right hand, he carried a velvet jewelry box.

He didn't speak immediately. He walked across the room, stopped two feet from her chair, and did something he had never done for any human being on earth.

He sank down onto his knees before his wife.

"I had the gates taken down," Dante said quietly, his gray eyes looking up into hers with complete vulnerability. "The perimeter walls are still guarded, but the gates are gone. You can drive out whenever you wish. You have root access to every server, every manifest, every corporate account in the Moretti empire. Nothing is hidden. Nothing will ever be hidden again."

Elena watched him, her heart softening, though her gaze remained steady. "I don't need access to your servers, Dante. I needed access to your heart."

"You have it," he whispered, opening the velvet box.

Inside lay her platinum wedding band. It had been polished, the salt and blood wiped away, shining like new under the morning light.

"I won't put this back on your finger," Dante said, his voice thick with emotion. "Only you can do that. If you decide that you only want me as the father of your child, I will sleep in the guest house for the rest of my days and protect you from the shadows. But if you can ever find a way to forgive the man who almost lost the only thing that gave his life meaning... I want you as my wife. Not my treasure. My equal."

Elena looked at the ring, then at the man kneeling in front of her. She saw the scars on his knuckles, the dark circles of sleepless nights under his eyes, and the absolute sincerity in his gaze.

He had learned the hardest lesson a powerful man could endure: that secrecy is not protection, and control is not love.

Slowly, Elena reached into the velvet box. She picked up the platinum band.

She didn't put it on her own hand.

She took Dante’s right hand and placed the ring into his palm, closing his fingers around it.

"Put it back on my finger, Dante," she whispered.

A ragged breath escaped his lips as he carefully, reverently slipped the ring over her knuckle, resting his forehead against her knees as he wept with profound relief.

Elena tangled her fingers in his dark hair, looking out over the calm waters of the harbor where the morning sun was rising, knowing that whatever storms came next, they would weather them together—not as king and prisoner, but as partners who ruled the tide.
