Chương 6 - The Dinner Video Goes Live

I had not intended to release the video.
I was content to let the legal notices stand, let them deal with their financial ruin, and keep my life quiet. But Marissa’s desperation had rendered her entirely blind to consequences.
On Thursday morning, a local high-society blog published a featured article titled: HEARTBREAK IN THE VALLEY: LOCAL PHILANTHROPIST’S DAUGHTER DENIED DREAM WEDDING BY EIGHT-MILLION-DOLLAR SISTER.
The article was a masterpiece of smear journalism. It painted Marissa as a sweet, humble bride whose "wealthy, bitter older sister" had revoked her home out of spite at the last minute. It included quotes from "anonymous family sources"—obviously my mother and cousin—claiming I was "hoarding wealth" and "suffering from a personality disorder."
The comments under the article were vicious. People were calling for a boycott of my consulting firm.
My PR manager, Sarah, called me at 9:00 AM.
"Claire, this is getting dirty," Sarah said. "They are actively damaging your firm's reputation. Two corporate clients have already emailed asking if this personal drama will impact our ongoing risk-consulting contracts."
I sat at my kitchen counter, looking out at the morning fog rolling over the river.
"Sarah," I said quietly.
"Yes, Claire?"
"Call the editor of the valley blog. Tell them we are issuing an official response statement."
"What kind of statement?"
"Send them the four-minute video clip from the dining room," I said calmly. "Unedited. Full audio. Include the certified copy of the forged permit signed by Blake, and the official legal cease-and-desist."
Sarah gasped softly. "Claire... if we release that, your sister's social life in this town is over. Your parents will never recover from the public embarrassment."
"They chose the battlefield, Sarah," I said, taking a sip of my black coffee. "I am simply finishing the war."
At 11:30 AM, the blog updated its front page.
They removed the original article entirely and replaced it with a new headline: THE TRUTH BEHIND THE VALLEY MANSION WEDDING: EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE REVEALS FORGERY, ASSAULT, AND FAMILY EXTORTION.
The four-minute video was embedded directly at the top of the page.
The impact was instantaneous and devastating.
The video showed the entire sequence: my sister shrieking at me, my father telling me I could afford repairs, my mother sitting passively, Blake smirking, my sister throwing the dark red sauce directly into my face, and my calm, silent exit.
Within two hours, the video went viral across local and regional social media. It racked up over one hundred thousand views in the county alone.
The comment sections instantly flipped from condemnation to absolute outrage against my family:
“The sister is a sociopath! She threw sauce in her face over an 8 million dollar house?!” “Listen to the father! ‘You can afford repairs’?! What kind of parents are these?!” “Look at the fiancé smirking! He forged her signature! Arrest him!” “Claire Sterling is a queen for walking out so calmly. That family is a nest of vipers!”

By 2:00 PM, the local sheriff's department issued a public statement confirming they had opened an official investigation into the forged municipal permit application bearing Blake's name.
The narrative had been completely, irrevocably destroyed.
