Chapter 5 - Breach at 03:41

Exactly three hours and forty-one minutes after the doorbell camera had pinged Elias’s phone at thirty thousand feet, the Suburban’s tires slid to a silent stop on the curb outside Whispering Pines Lane.
The suburban neighborhood was eerily quiet under the midnight mist, broken only by the low hum of idling engines. Mrs. Archer watched from behind her lace curtains, tears of relief spilling down her cheeks as she saw the dark, imposing figure of Colonel Elias Reed step out into the rain.
He did not shout. He did not run. He moved with the terrifying, measured grace of an apex predator returning to his territory.
Beside him, four Vanguard operators stacked against the front portico. At the rear patio, two Fairfield PD tactical officers and two contractors took position beside the glass French doors, their hydraulic breaching tools held ready.
Elias checked his tactical watch. The second hand hit the twelve.
"Execute," Elias whispered into his comms.
The night exploded.
A deafening *BANG* shattered the stillness as the hydraulic ram fractured the heavy mahogany front doors off their hinges, sending wood splinters spraying across the marble foyer. Simultaneously, the rear patio doors shattered inward under a controlled mechanical breach, raining safety glass onto the plush living room rugs.
Flashbang canisters detonated in the great room—*CRACK-CRACK*—producing a blinding white flash and a 170-decibel shockwave that disoriented everyone inside.
Screams of raw panic tore through the house.
"POLICE! STATE TACTICAL! ON THE GROUND! DOWN ON THE GROUND NOW!"
Tessa and Brooke, who had been sitting on the designer sofas holding wine glasses, threw their hands over their ears and collapsed onto the carpet, shrieking hysterically as red laser dots danced across their chests.
"DON'T SHOOT! DON'T SHOOT! WHAT IS HAPPENING?!" Brooke wailed, her face pressed against the rug, wine spilling into a bright red pool beside her head.
Through the smoke and drifting drywall dust, Elias stepped into the foyer. His combat boots crunched heavily over the broken wood. His eyes scanned the living area with surgical detachment, instantly identifying and dismissing the two sisters as neutralized threats.
"Clear left!" an operator barked.
"Clear right!"
From the second-floor landing, Claire emerged in a silk robe, screaming at the top of her lungs. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! THIS IS A PRIVATE RESIDENCE! I WILL SUE EVERY SINGLE ONE OF—"
She stopped dead.
At the base of the stairs, standing under the chandelier, was her husband.
Claire’s voice caught in her throat. The color drained from her face until she looked like a corpse. Her phone slipped from her fingers, tumbling down the hardwood stairs and landing with a dull clatter at Elias’s feet.
"E-Elias?" she stammered, her voice shaking violently. "You... you were over the Atlantic. You’re supposed to be in Germany..."
Elias didn't spare her a single word. He didn't even look up at her. He turned toward the kitchen hallway, his boots striking the floor with rhythmic, deliberate finality.
"Garrett. Secure the stairs. Nobody moves."
May you like
"Copy that, Colonel."
