Chapter 4 - Evidence of Betrayal

Captain Miller stepped past Daniel, giving a brief nod to his partner, Deputy Harris.
"Mr. Daniel Whitmore," Captain Miller said, his tone flat and official. "Please turn around and place your hands behind your back."
Daniel recoiled, stumbling backward against the mahogany front door. "Wait! What are you doing? On what grounds? This is a civil dispute! Emily, tell them this is a civil misunderstanding!"
"It ceased being a civil matter the moment you put your hands on my client," Rebecca Vance stated.
"I didn't touch her!" Daniel shouted, panicking, his eyes wild as he appealed to the crowd of onlookers. "She fell! She's hysterical! Mother, tell them! Everyone saw her slip!"
Margaret nodded violently. "Yes! She was clumsy in the kitchen! She dropped a tray and made a scene! My son merely helped her up!"
Emily pulled a sleek black tablet from Rebecca’s assistant and tapped the screen. She turned the display toward Daniel, Margaret, and the watching crowd.
The 4K security feed was crystal clear.
The video displayed a high-angle view of the commercial-grade kitchen timestamped at 5:14 PM. The audio was shockingly crisp:
*“COOK IT OR GET OUT!”* Daniel’s recorded voice roared through the tablet's speakers, violent and animalistic.
The screen showed Daniel grabbing Emily’s hair with both fists, wrenching her head back so hard her neck strained, and dragging her across the polished porcelain floor as she gasped in pain. It captured the sickening thud as he shoved her against the marble island, followed immediately by Margaret’s shrill laughter in the background: *“Know your place, servant!”*
The front hall fell into a graveyard silence.
The guests who had chuckled earlier now looked down at the floor in sheer mortification. Several women in the crowd backed away toward the coat racks, clearly horrified by the footage.
"The security system in this house does not feed into your local DVR, Daniel," Emily said, her voice steady and low. "It streams directly to an off-site enterprise server managed by my firm’s corporate security division. You never bothered to ask who installed it."
Captain Miller did not wait any longer. He grabbed Daniel’s right wrist, twisted it behind his back with practiced efficiency, and clicked a steel cuff into place.
"Daniel Whitmore, you are under arrest for felony domestic battery, assault, and false imprisonment," Miller recited mechanically.
"Emily! Stop this!" Daniel yelled as the second cuff snapped shut around his left wrist. The cold metal bit into his skin. "Think about what you're doing! We’re married! We can talk about this! Don't do this in front of everyone!"
"You had no problem humiliating me in front of everyone," Emily replied without blinking. "Take him out."
As the deputies escorted a thrashing, protesting Daniel down the stone steps toward the patrol vehicle, Margaret lunged forward toward Emily, her fingernails curved like claws. "You deceitful little viper! You ruined his life! You ruined my birthday!"
Two deputies immediately stepped into Margaret’s path, blocking her with rigid forearms.
"Step back, ma'am," Deputy Harris warned sternly. "Do not interfere with an active arrest, or you will be joining him."

Margaret froze, trembling with pure, impotent rage, while her son was forced into the back of the cruiser, his forehead smacking against the window frame as he wept.
