Chapter 7 - The Desperate Ambush

Two days before the gala, Sienna emerged from her corporate headquarters accompanied by two executive bodyguards. The midday sun was blinding, but before she could step into her waiting sedan, a disheveled figure lunged from behind a concrete pillar in the executive parking structure.
“Sienna! Please, just give me five minutes!”
Christian looked like an apparition. His designer shirt was wrinkled and stained, his eyes were bloodshot, and he had several days of patchy beard growth. He had lost his car, his home, his social standing, and his corporate credentials in less than a week.
The bodyguards moved instantly, pinning Christian against the concrete pillar with practiced efficiency.
“Wait,” Sienna told them calmly. “Keep him right there.”
Christian struggled against the guards' grip, his voice cracking with desperation. “Sienna, please! Look at me! I love you! I know my mom was out of line—she’s old, she’s crazy, she didn't mean it! I took your side, Sienna! I yelled at her! We’re staying in a roach motel while you’re living like a queen!”
Sienna walked toward him slowly, her heels clicking crisply against the asphalt. She stopped three feet away.
“You didn’t yell at her when you watched her strike me, Christian,” Sienna said, her voice completely devoid of emotion. “You lunged at me. You demanded that I apologize to a woman who drew blood from my face. You defended the hand that struck your wife because you were terrified your monthly allowance would stop.”
“I panicked!” Christian sobbed openly, tears cutting clean streaks through the grime on his cheeks. “You know how she is! She’s spent my whole life controlling me! If you divorce me, I have nothing! The company fired me today, Sienna! Marcus handed the embezzlement files to the police! They’re going to indict me! I’m looking at five to ten years in prison!”
“You should have thought about prison before you funneled nearly half a million dollars of Thorne International’s capital into Chloe’s dummy accounts,” Sienna said coldly.
Christian’s face went chalk-white. “You... you know about that?”
“I know about the shell company in Carson City. I know about the apartment you rented for your mistress in Tempe. And I know about the two hundred thousand dollars you lost in unauthorized cryptocurrency margin trades,” Sienna revealed, watching his entire world implode in real-time. “You didn’t marry me because you loved me, Christian. You married me because you needed an executive shield to hide your incompetence and greed.”
“Sienna, I’ll sign whatever you want!” Christian begged, falling to his knees as the guards maintained their grip. “I’ll renounce my mother! I’ll testify against her for the assault! Just tell Marcus to drop the corporate charges! Don't let them put me in prison!”
Sienna leaned down slightly, meeting his terrified, pleading gaze.
“In this family,” Sienna whispered, echoing Gwen’s vicious words from that fateful afternoon, “you obey the law. Goodbye, Christian.”

She turned, stepped into the black sedan, and left him weeping on the oil-stained concrete.
