Chapter 6 - The Forensic Audit

On Monday morning, Sienna walked into the executive boardroom of Thorne International. The bruise on her lip had faded to a faint pink line beneath expertly applied lipstick. Her posture was commanding, her black tailored suit radiating absolute authority.
Sitting across from her was Evelyn Cross and Marcus Vance—Christian’s paternal uncle, who served as Thorne International’s Senior Vice President of Internal Compliance. Unlike his parasitic brother and sister-in-law, Marcus had earned his position through thirty years of hard work and had long distanced himself from Gwen’s toxic theatrics.
“Sienna,” Marcus said gently, his eyes filled with profound professional regret. “I saw the security footage and the police reports Evelyn submitted. On behalf of the Vance family name, I am deeply ashamed.”
“You don't bear the sins of your brother’s widow, Marcus,” Sienna replied smoothly, taking her seat at the head of the table. “However, we have business that concerns Thorne International directly.”
Marcus nodded grimly, sliding a thick ledger across the table.
“Our forensic accounting team spent the weekend pulling every record associated with Christian’s department,” Marcus stated. “Over the last forty-eight months, Christian systematically diverted logistics subcontracting budgets through a dummy shell company registered in Nevada under Chloe’s name. Total diverted capital: four hundred and eighty thousand dollars.”
Sienna flipped through the invoices. She wasn't surprised. Christian had always lived beyond even the generous lifestyle she provided. He had bought expensive watches, paid for covert weekend getaways with women whose names Sienna was already compiling, and funded Chloe’s high-society aspirations using stolen corporate funds.
“He thought because he was married to the VP of Logistics, no one would ever audit his divisional requisitions,” Evelyn noted. “It constitutes grand larceny, corporate embezzlement, and tax evasion at the federal level.”
“What do you want to do, Sienna?” Marcus asked quietly. “As head of compliance, I have an obligation to refer this to the District Attorney. But out of respect for your position, I wanted you to review it first.”
Sienna closed the ledger with a soft thud.
“Do not show him leniency because of his surname, Marcus,” Sienna said without hesitation. “Christian stole from the company I helped build. He used those funds to subsidize a family that physically assaulted me in my own home. Hand the file directly to the State Attorney General and the FBI Financial Crimes Division.”
“Consider it done,” Marcus replied firmly.
“And what about Gwen?” Evelyn asked, tapping her pen against her tablet. “Her country club, the Valley Social Guild, is hosting their annual Midsummer Charity Gala this Thursday at the Phoenician. Gwen has spent the last five months serving as the ‘Honorary Chair’ of the patron committee, promising that the Thorne-Vance Foundation would provide the primary hundred-thousand-dollar endowment for the event.”
Sienna’s lips curved into a cold, brilliant smile.

“Gwen loves an audience,” Sienna said softly. “Let’s make sure she gets the biggest one of her life.”
