Chapter 10 - A Home Rebuilt on Truth

Two years later.

The ocean breeze blew gently across the terrace of a seaside villa in Baja California. Victor had stepped down as the active chief executive of Williams Enterprises, promoting a vetted board of directors to manage daily operations while he retained controlling interest. His true work was now at home.

In the spacious, light-filled kitchen, Catherine was rolling dough on a marble counter, her face glowing with radiant health. Her body had regained its strength, and her laughter once again filled the rooms.

Annie, now ten years old, was standing on a wooden stool beside her mother, her face dusted with flour as she attempted to shape sweet bread rolls.

“Look, Dad!” Annie cheered as Victor walked in, carrying a basket of fresh oranges from their orchard. “Mom taught me how to make authentic pan dulce! And we’re making extra to take to the community center tomorrow!”

Victor set the basket down and kissed Annie’s forehead, then wrapped his arms around Catherine’s waist, kissing the side of her neck.

“Smells like heaven,” Victor murmured.

“It smells like home,” Catherine corrected softly, leaning back into his embrace.

Later that evening, after Annie had fallen asleep in her spacious bedroom filled with books, paintings, and soft blankets, Victor and Catherine walked down to the shore. The Pacific waves lapped gently against their bare feet under a sky dusted with stars.

Victor reached into his pocket and drew out a small velvet box. Inside rested Catherine’s original wedding ring—the one she had been forced to pawn in Northside for eighty dollars, which Victor’s team had spent months tracking down and restoring to its original luster.

He took her left hand, sliding the familiar gold band back onto her finger where it belonged.

“To new beginnings,” Victor whispered, his eyes shining in the moonlight. “Based on truth, protected by love, and unbroken by anyone.”

Catherine looked down at the ring, then up into the eyes of the man who had brought her back from the edge of the abyss. She smiled, a pure, peaceful smile that carried no ghosts of the past.

“To our family,” she replied, resting her head against his chest, listening to the steady, unbreakable rhythm of his heart.
