Chapter 8 - War Room

By four in the morning, the master dining table had been transformed into a strategic command center. Financial ledgers, printed emails, patent schematics, and audio transcripts covered the mahogany surface.

Clara sat at the head of the table, sipping black tea, her initial hostility softened by the horror of what she had heard on the audio recordings. She looked at Adrian not as an enemy, but as a fellow casualty of the same predatory beast.

"Arthur Sterling controls the private security detail at Whitmore headquarters," Adrian explained, sketching an organizational chart on a legal pad. "He has the district attorney in his pocket, two senior judges on retainer, and three members of our five-person board of directors owe their private fortunes to offshore funds managed by Sterling’s shell company."

"Then the law won't touch him," Marissa said grimly. "Julian tried going to the Department of Justice. The deputy director who took his deposition was playing golf with Sterling that weekend. Two days later, Julian’s laboratory mysteriously burned."

"The legal system is built on their terms," Adrian agreed, leaning forward. "Which is why we aren't going to the courts. Not yet. We are going to hit them where they cannot buy a verdict: the open market."

Marissa frowned. "The stock market?"

"Tomorrow morning at ten o'clock, the executive committee meets to approve the public launch of Project Solstice—the thermal conductor your husband invented," Adrian said, his eyes glittering with cold intelligence. "Sterling has orchestrated a massive secondary stock offering tied to the launch. Over eight hundred institutional investors, international energy conglomerates, and Wall Street analysts will be tuning in to the global broadcast."

"And what will you do?" Clara asked.

"I am the Chairman. I deliver the keynote address," Adrian said. "Sterling expects me to read the teleprompter, announce the patent approvals, and sign off on the corporate transfer. Instead, I am going to broadcast every single document on this hard drive directly to the global financial wire, the SEC fraud division, and international media networks simultaneously."

"He will cut the feed," Marissa pointed out. "Sterling controls corporate IT. The moment he sees what you're doing, he'll kill the power and take down the broadcast."

Adrian smiled a dark, humorless smile. "He controls Whitmore Tower's internal network. But he doesn't control Apex Cloud Systems. Two years ago, before my father died, I invested thirty million dollars of my personal, non-trust inheritance into an independent decentralized streaming infrastructure based out of Zurich. When I initiate the data dump from my personal terminal, it will override the broadcast feed via satellite uplink. Sterling’s engineers won't be able to kill the signal without shooting down a communications satellite."

"And what happens to you?" Marissa asked, her voice filled with sudden concern. "If you expose Whitmore Holdings for corporate theft, patent fraud, and conspiracy to commit murder... the company will collapse. The Whitmore name will be ruined. You will lose everything."

Adrian looked around the opulent penthouse—the marble, the priceless art, the glittering city lights outside.

"My father built this tower on the corpse of my mother and the stolen genius of your husband," Adrian said quietly. "Let it burn."
