Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Showdown

The boardroom exploded into hushed, frantically alarmed whispers. Board members exchanged bewildered looks, leaning toward one another as the tension in the room spiked instantly.

Martin’s face tightened, his eyes narrowing into cold slits. “Victor, you are clearly delusional. You are making wild, slanderous accusations without a shred of evidence! The pain medication from your hospital stay must be clouding your mind.”

“Is my mind clouded, Uncle?” I asked calmly. I turned my head slightly toward Clara. “Clara, if you would please distribute the folders.”

Clara stepped forward calmly, holding a stack of thick, black leather-bound dossiers. With steady hands and absolute poise, she walked around the massive granite table, placing a folder in front of every single board member.

Martin made a move to intercept her, but Clara neatly bypassed him, ignoring his furious glare entirely.

“What is the meaning of this foolishness?” Vanessa snapped, standing up from her seat, her voice screeching across the silent room. “She is just a low-class house servant! How dare you let a maid interfere in a corporate board meeting!”

“That ‘house servant’ has more integrity in her little finger than you have in your entire body, Vanessa,” I said, my voice dropping its soft, fragile tone. It vibrated with a cold, terrifying authority that made everyone in the room freeze.

The board members opened their folders. Inside were dozens of pages of bank statements, encrypted wire transfer records, forensic accounting audits, and high-resolution photographs of Martin and Daniel meeting secretly with executives from Apex Holdings over the past six months.

“What you hold in your hands,” I announced loudly to the board, “is absolute proof of corporate espionage, embezzlement, and high treason against Vance Enterprises. For the past two years, Martin Vance and Daniel Miller have been secretly siphoning company funds into shell companies. They orchestrated the panic over my accident specifically to force an undervalued sale of our core tech patents to Apex Holdings—a shell company they secretly own.”

One of the senior board members, an elderly billionaire named Arthur Pendelton, slammed his fist onto the granite table, his face red with fury. “Martin! Is this true? These bank records bear your personal authorization signature!”

“It’s a forgery!” Martin yelled, sweat breaking out across his forehead. He turned fiercely toward the board, his hands waving in desperation. “He’s making it up! He manufactured these fake documents to ruin us! He’s crazy! Look at him—he’s a helpless cripple desperate to hold onto power!”

Daniel slumped back into his chair, pulling at his collar as if he were choking. He knew the formatting of those bank statements; they were authentic, internal bank documents that only top-tier federal investigators could obtain.

Vanessa’s face turned from pale to ash. She looked from Martin to Daniel, realizing with a sudden wave of panic that the ground beneath her feet was crumbling fast.

“You think I am helpless, Uncle?” I asked softly.

I reached down to my knees. Slowly, deliberately, I tossed the cashmere blanket onto the floor.

Then, before the shocked eyes of twenty board members, my uncle, Daniel, and Vanessa, I placed my feet on the ground, stood up from the wheelchair, and walked smoothly to the head of the boardroom table.
