Chapter 10 - The Unspoken Vow

Three weeks later.

The first snow of the winter season was falling gently over Central Park, dusting the trees and stone bridges in a soft, pristine blanket of white.

The glass penthouse suite at the top of the Marlowe Tower was quiet, warm, and bathed in the soft, golden light of a crackling marble fireplace.

I stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, wearing a long silk gown, sipping a warm cup of tea, watching the snowflakes dance in the dark night sky.

Behind me, the door opened softly.

Vincent walked into the room, wearing a dark velvet lounge jacket, carrying two glasses of deep red wine. He set one glass on the small table beside me and stood behind me, his chest resting gently against my back, his warmth seeping through the silk of my gown.

He didn't speak. He simply wrapped his long, strong arms around my waist, pulling me close against him, resting his chin gently against the top of my head.

For three years, I had run from everything—from my father's debts, from Evan’s suffocating promises, from my own fear of belonging to someone else.

But standing here, wrapped in the arms of the most dangerous, powerful man in the city, I felt completely, undeniably safe.

"Are you warm enough?" Vincent murmured softly into my hair.

"I'm perfect," I whispered, resting my head back against his chest, listening to the steady, strong rhythm of his heartbeat.

Vincent turned me around gently in his arms until I was looking up into his dark, magnificent eyes.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a simple, elegant platinum band—not a massive diamond meant for public galas, not a show of wealth to impress two hundred guests, but a quiet, timeless ring holding a single, flawless sapphire that glowed like the deep sea in the firelight.

"Claire," Vincent whispered, his voice trembling with a rare, profound emotion that made my breath catch in my throat. "I have spent fifty-one years building an empire, believing that power was the only thing that could keep me whole. But these three years with you showed me that my empire was empty without your heart."

He slid the platinum ring onto my finger. It fit perfectly, warm against my skin.

"Will you stand beside me, Claire?" Vincent asked, his eyes burning with an intense, unyielding devotion. "Not as my operations director. Not as my ward. But as my wife, my equal, and my home?"

Tears of pure, overwhelming happiness glistened in my eyes as I reached up, placing my hands against his sharp jaw, pulling his face down to mine.

"Yes," I whispered against his lips. "Yes, Vincent. Always."

His lips met mine in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed our quiet vow against the falling snow, drowning out every shadow of the past.
