Chapter 5 - Turning the Tide

By noon, Amanda attempted to wage a public relations war.
She posted a heavily cropped clip on her social media channels, showing only the moment I dumped the beef stew over her head. The caption painted her as an innocent victim attacked by a violent, gold-digging sister-in-law: *“Heartbroken by the unhinged violence from someone we welcomed into our home. Justice will be served.”*
Within two hours, the comment section exploded with outrage directed at me, stoked by paid influencers and socialite peers. Richard called me again, his tone dripping with condescending triumph when I finally answered.
"Do you see what’s happening online, Clara?" he sneered. "Your reputation is ruined. Sign the separation agreement Howard Sterling emailed you by five o'clock, or Amanda files the police report. You'll go to jail."
"Is that your final offer, Richard?" I asked calmly.
"It’s your only option," he barked. "You’re an embarrassment."
"Thank you for clarifying," I said, and hung up.
Five minutes later, Marcus and I initiated our counter-offensive. We didn't leak our footage to tabloid blogs; we sent the unedited, 4K camera master directly to the city’s top investigative crime journalist and posted the complete, uncropped twenty-second sequence onto a newly verified public platform.
The footage clearly showed Amanda berating me, shrieking obscenities, and violently striking my face with enough force to twist my neck—before I ever touched the bowl of stew. Accompanying the video was my official medical report detailing a mild concussion and facial contusions, alongside a formal criminal complaint filed against Amanda Vance for assault and battery.
Within forty-five minutes, the internet flipped. The headline ran across city news: *“Vance Heiress Caught on Camera Committing Unprovoked Assault Before Famous Stew Retaliation.”*
