Chapter 11 - The True Trophy

The stars began to emerge in the darkening velvet sky above the mountains, sparkling bright and clear over the peaceful estate.

In the distance, the lights of the house glowed warm and inviting, casting long amber beams across the soft green grass.

Inside, Elena was fast asleep in her nursery, tucked beneath a soft blanket, her stuffed lion resting beside her pillow. Rockford Jones lived peacefully in his small cottage in Maine, spending his days painting wooden boats and writing long, loving letters to his granddaughter every week.

Jones-Moretti Global flourished, a beacon of integrity and strength, employing thousands of people and changing lives across the nation.

And on the stone porch of the estate, Adelaide Moretti stood at the railing, looking out over the vast, beautiful land that belonged to her family.

Mateo stepped up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, holding her close against his chest as the cool night breeze rustled through the pine trees.

“What are you thinking about, my love?” Mateo asked softly, his lips resting against the crown of her head.

Adelaide looked at her reflection in the dark glass of the window.

She saw no hidden librarian. She saw no ugly duckling. She saw no victim of a cruel stepmother or a weak father.

She saw a woman who was loved beyond measure—a Chief Financial Officer, a mother, a partner, and a queen who ruled her own destiny with an iron mind and a gentle heart.

“I’m thinking about that afternoon in your study,” Adelaide whispered, turning in his arms to look up into the face of the man who had changed her world. “When my family sent me here, they told themselves you would reject me. They laughed because they thought I was a worthless punishment.”

Mateo wrapped his hand around her waist, pulling her flush against his body, his eyes shining with infinite devotion.

“They thought they were sending a punishment,” Mateo whispered, his voice full of profound, unshakeable truth. “And they didn't realize they were handing me the greatest treasure of my life.”

He leaned down and kissed her beneath the starry sky—a kiss that carried no shadows, no secrets, and no fear—only the brilliant, unbroken light of a love that had conquered the dark.
