Chapter 11 - The Confrontation and the Locked Drive

Tactical officers in plain clothes moved with silent precision through the subterranean parking garage, flanking the gray sedan before Marcus could even unbuckle his seatbelt.

Within seconds, the driver's side window was breached, the door was thrown wide open, and Marcus was pulled face-first onto the cold concrete.

"Police! Don't move! Hands behind your back!"

Marcus did not yell. He did not scream innocence or ask about Lily. As the metal cuffs ratcheted around his wrists, he turned his face toward the garage lights, his expression devoid of all human emotion. His eyes were flat, dead stones.

Detective Hayes stepped forward, pulling a heavy black duffel bag from the passenger seat of his vehicle. Inside were two high-gain directional antennas, a disassembled soldering iron, and a ruggedized tactical laptop that was running an active program.

"It's over, Marcus," Hayes stated, securing his phone into a Faraday isolation pouch. "We have the lamp. We have your local drives. We know what you were broadcasting."

A thin, mocking smirk tugged at the corner of Marcus's lips. "You found the toy," he murmured, his voice chillingly calm. "You think you found the whole system."

Hayes ignored him, gesturing to the transport officers to load him into the back of the cruiser. But before the cruiser door closed, the forensic technician standing over Marcus’s laptop gasped.

"Detective Hayes! Look at this dashboard right now!"

Hayes and I rushed to the trunk where the laptop rested. The screen displayed a live, real-time audio waveform that was actively fluctuating, transmitting from a location marked as *Active Station 02*.

The audio feed wasn't coming from Lily’s bedroom. The background sound coming through the speaker was the distinct, rhythmic dripping of our basement water pipe—and then, a clear, heavy scraping of metal dragging against stone underneath the cellar floorboards of my home.

At that exact second, a notification popped up on Marcus’s mirrored screen from an unregistered contact:

*She's at the hospital. Move the secondary cargo before the warrant extends to the foundation.*
