Chapter 6 - The Unraveling

"Have you completely lost your mind?!"
Lorenzo’s roar shook the crystal pendants of the chandelier as he hauled Isabella back into the private library, slamming the heavy oak doors shut behind them. The twenty-six relatives outside remained frozen in the dining room, trapped in a silence so thick it could be carved with a knife.
Adrien followed them into the study, closing the door behind him with a calculated look of profound concern. "Bella, really. This is... hysterical. You’re eight months pregnant, you’re under a lot of stress, throwing tantrums over a foundation consultant—"
"Shut up, Adrien," Isabella said.
The quiet command in her voice was so absolute that Adrien actually stopped mid-sentence, blinking in astonishment.
Isabella turned to Lorenzo, who was breathing heavily, his face mottled with fury and humiliation. "You humiliated me in front of my family," Lorenzo snarled, taking a step toward her. "You hand our family ring to a stranger—to a girl who works for us—and you make a public spectacle of yourself. What the hell is wrong with you?"
"What is wrong with me?" Isabella echoed, a cold, humorless laugh escaping her lips. She walked over to the mahogany desk, picked up the leather portfolio Adrien had brought, and flipped it open to the final signature page. "You were about to sign away ninety million dollars in real estate assets to your cousin, Lorenzo. Did you even read the assignees on page four?"
Lorenzo frowned, glancing between his wife and his cousin. "What are you talking about? It’s a standard foundation grant transfer for the Delaware Avenue project."
"It’s not a grant transfer," Adrien interjected sharply, his oily composure finally fracturing at the edges. "Lorenzo, don't listen to her, she’s having a paranoid episode—"
"It’s a corporate quitclaim deed," Isabella stated, her voice ringing out with legal clarity. "It transfers full ownership of Vanguard Holdings LLC—and every commercial property currently held by the foundation—directly to Adrien Bellini. In exchange, Adrien assumes zero liability for the federal tax fraud associated with the initial acquisition."
Lorenzo whipped his head around to stare at his cousin. "Adrien? Is this true?"
Adrien’s face went from pale to dark crimson. "She’s lying. She’s trying to protect her own position because she can't handle the fact that you have a mistress—"
The library doors did not open; they were pushed wide with an unceremonious, heavy shove.
Rachel Mercer walked into the room, followed not by armed thugs, but by two men in dark suits carrying federal badges, accompanied by Daniel Vance, the senior partner of the Bellini family’s primary corporate legal counsel.
Lorenzo’s hand instinctively dropped toward his waist, where he usually carried a Sig Sauer pistol, before he remembered he had left his jacket in the dining room. "What is the meaning of this? Who let these people into my house?"
"I did, Lorenzo," Rachel Mercer said smoothly, holding up a certified copy of a federal subpoena and a sweeping forensic audit report. "And technically, it’s her house, considering Isabella holds seventy percent of the voting shares in Bellini Holdings through pre-nuptial asset protections you signed in 2014."
The federal agent stepped forward, flashing his credentials directly into Adrien Bellini’s face. "Adrien Bellini, I am Special Agent Miller, IRS Criminal Investigation Division. You are being placed under arrest for wire fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit white-collar embezzlement."
Adrien stumbled backward, his shoulder hitting the bookshelf. "You have no jurisdiction here! This is a family matter—"
"It stopped being a family matter the moment you routed federal grant money through offshore accounts in the Caymans," Agent Miller said, snapping steel handcuffs onto Adrien’s wrists with practiced efficiency. "You have the right to remain silent..."

As Adrien was hauled toward the door, glaring at Isabella with venomous, unadulterated hatred, Lorenzo stared at his wife as if she had suddenly transformed into a stranger.
"Bella," Lorenzo whispered, his voice cracking. "What... what did you do?"
